A new dad in Ohio has been arrested on serious felony charges after he carelessly tried to sell meth in front of his infant.

According to WHIO-TV, 31-year-old Brian Shaner was arrested on Monday after authorities issued a warrant for the young dad, who had been accused of trafficking drugs with his baby present.

Authorities say Shaner was found in Oxford on Monday and immediately sent to the Preble County Jail, where she was booked for the night.

According to a news release from Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson, Shaner still remains behind bars pending his arraignment in the Preble County Court of Common Pleas.

In the release, which was later shared on the Preble County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Simpson revealed that Shaner had a lengthy history of drug-related arrests:

One Arrested on Trafficking Indictment

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Eaton Police Department conducted a short term narcotics investigation in November that has resulted in the arrest of an Eaton, Ohio male for trafficking in drugs.

A Preble County Grand Jury indicted Brian Shaner, age 31 of Eaton, with the following crimes at their December session:

  • Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, a 2nd Degree Felony
  • Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a 3rd Degree Felony
  • Endangering Children, a 1st Degree Misdemeanor

Detectives conducted an undercover controlled purchase of 6.8 grams of Methamphetamine from Shaner in mid-November in Eaton. Shaner sold the drugs while in the presence of his newborn child.

Shaner has a significant drug related criminal history, with prior convictions for Illegal Manufacturing of Drugs, Illegal Possession of Chemicals to Manufacture Drugs, felony Possession of Drugs and Endangering Children. These convictions were the result of a case investigated jointly by both agencies in 2007.

A warrant was issued after the indictment and Shaner was arrested in Oxford today on the warrant. He is currently housed in the Preble County Jail, pending his arraignment in Preble County Common Pleas Court.

Surprisingly enough, after it was announced that Shaner had been arrested for selling drugs in front of his newborn, several of his relatives and friends commented on Facebook posts about his arrest to defend his actions.

“Brian was never like this, ever. Not making any excuses for him whatsoever, because it was his choice to use no one else made that choice for him. But if you knew the Brian Shaner that I grew up with ( he's my cousin ), you'd know what a great, funny, hardworking, loving father he was. He could make anyone laugh and loved his family and GOOD friends with his whole heart. He's far from a bad person! He got mixed in with the wrong people doing all the wrong things because of his addiction. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to come close to putting up a good fight but I pray that one day he can,” Brandi Durham, who claims to be Shaner’s cousin, wrote on Facebook.

“Prayers for Brain shaner I know he's a better person than this I grow up with Brain,” another friend wrote.
