When doctors told Riley Benado that she was at least five months pregnant, she knew it had to be impossible.
At 18-years-old, Benado was still a virgin, but she still couldn’t understand why she was feeling so bloated and uncomfortable.
Initially, when Benado went to see her doctor on September 14, she was immediately given a pregnancy test.
Less than 10 days later, a team of specialists were finally sent in to figure out the teen’s unbelievable diagnosis: stage 3 ovarian cancer.
According to Paso Robles Daily News, Benado had a complete hysterectomy on Saturday to remove the 11-by-13 centimeter mass she had on one ovary; her ovaries, eggs, and uterus were all removed.
For someone as young as Benado, the news has been shocking, confusing, and devastating.
"At this age, removal of these parts of my body is not only scary, but it's heartbreaking," she wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help raise money for the endless amount of medical bills her family now has. "I have always dreamed of having my own children and raising a family. I love kids so much, so to know I will never have a child with my own genes and my own characteristics breaks me down."
Though she has been posting updates about her condition since finding out the heartbreaking news, Benado has yet to write anything since the surgery.
