People are having mixed feelings after Patton Oswalt seemed to confirm that he was engaged just 15 months after his wife, crime writer Michelle McNamara, died unexpectedly in her sleep.
As The Hollywood Gossip reports, the comedian and actor recently began dating Meredith Salenger, but their relationship was barely announced a month ago.
The pair seems to be moving pretty quickly, declaring their love all over social media mere days after confirming their budding romance.
Then, yesterday, the Internet went into a frenzy when Salenger posted a 2008 photo of her catching the bouquet at a friend’s wedding, along with the caption: “Once upon a time… in 2008… at my friend’s wedding… I caught the bouquet… #fairytalesdoexist.”
The post all but outwardly confirmed that Oswalt and Salenger had decided to tie the knot.
In Salenger’s most recent post on Instagram, she shared a selfie with Oswalt in which she jokingly Photoshopped a photo of The Rock onto her ring finger.
“I don’t wanna brag… but check out the size of The Rock on my finger! Hahahah,” she captioned the photo.
Just a few days ago, Salenger also shared a photo of her beau at the beach with the caption: “The love of my life – my funny hunny.”
While fans initially praised Oswalt for pulling himself out of a year-long bout of depression and learning to love again, he and Salenger are now being criticized by some for flaunting their relationship less than a year and a half after McNamara’s untimely death.
An insider has confirmed the quickie engagement to PEOPLE.
Then, earlier today, Salenger posted a photo on Instagram of her real rock (not the actor this time).
“It's official. I'm the luckiest happiest girl in the universe!!!! I love you @pattonoswalt I love you Alice Oswalt! #YesYesYes,” she captioned the sweet snap.
Oswalt also made a joke about the proposal, writing on Twitter: “I put the ring in a marzipan Slave I replica and said, ‘Will you be my Padawan of Love?’ She maced me but said yes later.”
Salenger, 47, and Oswalt, 48, went public with their relationship last month when they arrived to the Baby Driver premiere in Los Angeles together.
This is the first public relationship Oswalt has had since his late wife, McNamara, passed away suddenly in her sleep in April 2016, leaving behind the couple’s only daughter, Alice.
In the months since McNamara’s death, Oswalt has been brutally honest with his fans about his battle with depression.
Earlier this year, Oswalt shared a deeply emotional post on Facebook in which he revealed that he was finally taking off his wedding ring.
