A Colorado mom has been accused of locking her small children inside a bedroom while she went away on a trip.
According to The Denver Channel, it remains unclear exactly how long 25-year-old Kanesha Godin left her children alone for, but authorities say they were malnourished when they were finally discovered.
The police department has since revealed that Godin allegedly asked a friend to check on her children, feed them, and change their diapers.
She reportedly told the friend that she had asked a neighbor to come stay with them at night, but the friend later disclosed that there was no neighbor checking on the children.
According to The Denver Channel, authorities have not told the public how old the children were or how long it took before they were finally found.
While police are not releasing the children’s ages, neighbors say a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy lived in the home.
Neighbors also told FOX21 that Godin frequently drank and left her children home alone while she went to liquor stores to buy alcohol.
Investigators say police were alerted to the situation once Godin’s friend realized there was no neighbor staying with the children.
Officers reportedly obtained an arrest warrant for Godin on Tuesday, though she later turned herself in.
According to El Paso County jail records, her bond was set at $25,000.
The Denver Channel shared this story on Facebook, where dozens of commenters called for authorities to take the children out of Godin’s care permanently.
“Unbelievable. there's couples out there that would do anything to have a child of their own and there's idiots like this that don't deserve kids. sorry lady your kids were such an inconvenience to you. you can't just lock them away and take them out when you're ready! smh a disgrace,” one woman commented.
“If she doesn't want to be a responsible parent give the children up to a responsible guardian. This is just sick and these angels will still love her not realizing the dangers she exposed them to,” another added.
“How can people want to have children...but aren't able to care for the children...you go on vacation you make sure you have a good sitter and if you don't you don't lock them up in a room you take care of them yourself n forget vacation,” one commenter wrote.
“Lock her up - take those babies away! I wouldn't even leave my pets locked up in a bedroom if I went on a trip! Sick woman,” another commented.
