One evening, a son decided to treat his elderly father to a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. Even though the father tried his best to make it through the night, he was so weak that he had a tough time keeping his shirt clean.
Not wanting to embarrass his son during their evening out, the father pretending not to notice the other diners staring at him in disgust as he accidentally dropped food on himself.
At the end of the meal, the son stood up, paid the bill, and casually helped his father walk to the bathroom.
After he cleaned his father’s shirt, he flashed a genuine smile and said: “Thank you so much for joining me tonight, Dad. I love you.”
Trying to hold back tears of joy, the father proudly walked back out with his son, once again coming face-to-face with a room full of disgusted people.
As the pair got ready to leave, the entire restaurant remained silent—except for one old man sitting in the back.
“Excuse me, young man. Aren’t you forgetting something at the restaurant?” he asked.
“I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure we’re ready to go,” the son replied.
With a huge smile on his face, the elderly man said: “Never forget that you’ve left us with a lesson for every son and a little glimmer of hope for every father in this room!”
Everybody in the room fell silent again—only this time, they were the ones embarrassed.
