She had only been married to Sean Cousins three years when she grew tired of him, so when Catherine Stanek-Cousins saw the handsome new neighbor, Timothy Koile, it wasn’t long before their chemistry turned into an affair.
Even the neighbors noticed this romance, although it wasn’t until a police investigation that Catherine was revealed to be jealous and abusive to her husband Sean.
Sean Cousins was missing for four days in May 2001, and the all the neighbors whispered about Catherine’s affair with Timothy. Eventually, Sean’s decomposed body was found in a remote creek in Osceola County, Florida.
No one in Sean’s family was surprised that Catherine was the killer. They told the Sun-Sentinel that it was obvious they weren’t in love, and suspicious bruises on Sean cropped up time and time again.
While police suspected both Catherine and Timothy, Timothy wouldn’t talk until after the death penalty was off the table. Then he confessed that he walked in to the Cousins house and saw Sean lying in a pool of blood, with a gunshot wound to the body.
Sean was still alive and begging for his life. Catherine demanded that Timothy deliver the final blow, but he refused. So Catherine took the gun and shot her husband in the head. Then she was verbally abusive toward Timothy, calling him names and belittling him for not killing Sean.
Timothy also revealed that Catherine hoped to cash in on a $1 million life insurance policy.
In the end Catherine only received 15 years in prison, and was released in 2015. Timothy received 10 years, with five years probation. He was released in 2011, but was incarcerated again in 2013 for this same crime.
