More than six months after Omar Mateen killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, his widow has revealed that she plans on changing their son’s name.

Noor Salman, Mateen’s widow, says she will soon change her 4-year-old son Zakariaya Omar Mateen’s name and abandon all parts of the name that relate to the mass shooter.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, court records do not show what name Salman has chosen for her son.

Shortly after the June 12th attack, photos of Mateen, Salman, and their son were circulated around the world, though most media outlets respectfully blurred Zakariaya’s face.

Almost immediately after the horrific shooting, Mateen’s father told reporters that his son had developed a hatred for homosexuals after two men kissed in front of his son.

Authorities believe this may have been part of Mateen’s reasoning for planning the massacre at a gay nightclub.

Once news of the shooting broke, Salman and her son left Fort Pierce and moved back home to Southern California.

Back in October, Salman said the shooting left her feeling "shattered and afraid” and she often “can’t get out of bed and depends on family members to take care of her son.”

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Salman has moved around at least three times since the attack.

She has reportedly already filed a petition in California courts to change her child’s name.
