Actor James Earl Jones and his family are asking that donations be made in his wife’s name to The Actors Fund or Hudson Valley Hospice, two causes close to her heart.
Cecilia Hart died on Sunday, October 16 at the age of 68, after a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer.
Jones and Hart were married in 1982, the same year that they portrayed Othello and Desdemona on Broadway. The two had met several years before, on the short lived series 1979 Paris, where Hart played a young detective and Jones played the police captain.
Cecilia also played guest roles on TV shows like Law & Order, MacGyver, and Three's Company.
For both actors, this was a second marriage. James Earl Jones had been married to actress Julienne Marie from 1968 to 1972. Cecilia Hart had been married to actor Bruce Weitz from 1971 to 1980.
Neither of them had children from their previous marriage. Flynn Earl Jones was born to Cecilia and James shortly after their wedding.
Hart’s last role was in Bedroom Farce at the Westport Country Playhouse last year. James Earl, now 85, has been the subject of Star Wars rumors, with many fans questioning if he will return to the franchise to voice Darth Vader.
Cecilia and James’ last public appearance together was in June for the Tony Awards.
