The frosting and final decoration on a cake are what takes your homemade creation from a plain sheet cake to a beautiful, photo-worthy presentation. Unfortunately, for many of us, the latter was simply never an option with our lack of culinary abilities and kitchen supplies.

With this new cake-frosting hack though, just about anyone can step up their cake decorating abilities.

You don't need any fancy utensils or other kitchen supplies to decorate your cake with a smooth, perfect sheen of frosting. It's the perfect cake decorating how to "for those of us who just can't even."

Here's how you can make a perfectly frosted cake in your own humble kitchen.

Put your cooled cake on a cake rack on top of a large sheet of aluminum foil.

Open 1 16-oz. can of store-bought frosting, making sure to rip off the aluminum sheet on the inside. Microwave at 30-second intervals until the frosting is able to be poured.

You can also do the same with homemade frosting! Just put your frosting in a microwave-safe bowl and proceed in the same fashion.

Add food coloring, if desired, and mix with any utensil (spoon, chopstick, butter knife, etc.) until the color is even and the frosting is completely smooth.

Pour the frosting generously over the entire cake, making sure to cover any and all surface visible surface area.

If you'd like, you can top your dessert off with sprinkles, fruit, cookies, or any other topping you desire.

The best part? Cleaning up only requires you to rinse your cake rack free of frosting, and to toss the foil you laid out underneath.

And voila! You'll be sure to wow your friends when you bring this over at your next visit.
