Get ready to wow your guests at the upcoming holiday parties by serving them homemade hot cocoa in the slow cooker!
It’s way yummier that the powdered packages you make with water, and it’s so easy to make!
Marzia from Little Spice Jar shared this recipe for Mexican hot chocolate, and it is so good.
“This hot cocoa is made with melted chocolate, not just cocoa powder, spices like cinnamon and a hint of chili powder,” Marzia wrote on her blog post about the recipe. “The flavor is so rich and delicious, just the way hot chocolate should be!”
Mexican hot chocolate is a little bit thicker, has a lot of added flavor, and is the perfect comfort for those cold days!
To make it, Marzia got out her slow cooker and tossed all the ingredients in.
To her hot cocoa, Marzia added in bittersweet chocolate bars, cocoa powder, sweetened condensed milk, and just a tad of chili powder.
“Don’t worry the chili powder is no way strong enough be spicy, it just adds a little heat,” Marzia wrote on her post. “It’s comforting and cozy. The spices are meant to be subtle but add so much flavor to the hot chocolate.”
Along with the chili, she also added in cinnamon and nutmeg.
Then, over the top of all the ingredients, Marzia poured her milk.
“I decided to go the old fashioned route and just use good ol’ whole milk,” Marzia wrote. “This recipe would also work with 2% or even skim.”
After throwing everything into the slow cooker, Marzia left it to heat up.
“If you can toss everything in a Crock-Pot and stir it twice every hour, you can make this recipe,” she wrote. “Warm, comforting, and perfect for the holidays.”
The hot chocolate was ready to drink after two hours.
She served it with a heaping topping of whipped cream, marshmallows, and chocolate syrup!
“It’s simple, clearly it’s easy to make, an way cheaper than purchasing store bought mixes,” Marzia wrote.
