This Slow Cooker Oatmeal Recipe Is The Perfect, Healthy Way To Start Your Mornings

If you’ve only ever had packaged oatmeal, don’t even compare. Using all fresh ingredients to make your own, personalized oatmeal is so much better than anything you can get from a bagged mix.

It's a saying that's circulated often: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Unfortunately, breakfast is also one of the easiest meals to skip in the day. If you wake up late or need to get into work early, it seems too easy to save yourself some time by just not eating breakfast. Making this choice, however, can be incredibly detrimental to your health and productivity levels all day.

If you make this Skinny Slow Cooker Oats recipe overnight though, you'll never have to worry about prepping breakfast again. Brooke from Skinny Mom had the same exact thoughts.

She wrote, "We pulled out the slow cooker and decided to give it a go. As promised, the oats turned out perfect! With just a little sweetener and some fresh blueberries, we found a, easy, healthy breakfast recipe that you can make once a week!"

Here's how you can make it yourself.

Coat the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.

Pour in 1 cup steel cut oats and 4 cups water into the cooker. Then, add 2 teaspoons cinnamon and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract into the cooker and mix well.

Cover the cooker and cook on Low for 7-8 hours.

When you get up in the morning, stir the oats and add 1 tsp of your sweetener of choice for flavor.

If you don't like the consistency, add a splash of milk until it's to your liking.

Top your bowl off with fresh blueberries, pecan bits, or any other toppings you like.
